Summary
Asthenospermia is a condition where spermatozoa in the ejaculate show weak and insufficient motility, potentially causing male infertility. This reduced mobility can result from various factors such as the patient's general health, pus in the ejaculate, or altered prostate secretion.
Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)
ASTHENOSPERMIA (from the Greek asthenes - weak and sperma - seed), a condition in which the spermatozoa present in the ejaculate in normal or reduced quantities possess weak and insufficient motility. Asthenospermia may be one of the causes of male infertility. The weak motility of spermatozoa depends on many causes: the general condition of the patient, the presence of pus in the ejaculate, and the influence of a pathologically altered prostate secretion.
